Irrfan Khan Death: Actor Was To Collaborate With Deepika Padukone For A Film After Piku; Was Postponed Due To His Cancer Diagnosis
After Irrfan Khan-Deepika Padukone’s film Piku, the two actors were to star once again for a film produced by Vishal Bharadwaj. However, just before the shooting of the film was to commence, it had to be pushed back due to Irrfan Khan’s cancer diagnosis
Irrfan Khan’s untimely death has come as a huge shock for everyone. The actor, who was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018, breathed his last in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Mumbai on April 29, 2020. He had been admitted to the ICU there on April 28 for colon infection. It was a huge loss for Bollywood, and the film industry lost an actor par excellence. Over the years, Irrfan Khan has starred in some hit movies, one of which was Piku, in which he was seen along with Deepika Padukone. After Piku’s success, the two were set to star in yet another film, but it never took off, as Irrfan was diagnosed with cancer.
There had been reports that Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone will team up once again in a Honey Trehan directorial which was rumoured to be based on the life of mafia queen Ashraf Khan aka Sapna Didi. The gangster drama was to be produced by Vishal Bharadwaj, and he had announced the film in 2017. However, he had then given an update in February 2018, that the film had to be stalled due to the lead actors’ health issues.
In his Facebook post, Vishal Bharadwaj had written, “In the past few weeks, I felt like I was back in the days of Maqbool while prepping with them. Deepika and Irrfan’s look tests have come out exceptionally well, nothing like you’ve seen before, and it took me a moment to recognize them when I saw the test photographs. I want both of them to be strong and fit before we start the film.”
Vishal Bharadwaj had also clarified that the film wasn’t a biopic. He wrote, “Yes, it’s a takeoff from the story Femme Fatale from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai but as we worked on this idea, the story and screenplay have taken on a new identity and shape which is nowhere close to the above-mentioned names. Hence, it’s definitely not a biopic.” ALSO READ: Irrfan Khan Demise: Throwback To 2009 Oscars Red Carpet When Irrfan Made India Proud With Anil Kapoor For Slumdog Millionaire
